What does a zero mean to you?
March 7th, 2008
For some reason I woke up today thinking about the number Zero.
Maybe it was listening to a lot of Smashing Pumpkins as a kid,
with Billy Corgan wearing his silly bald head and “ZERO” tee
shirt. Or maybe it was all my skater friends riding on Zero
brand boards.
You might not know this, but we human beings have only known
about the number zero for a few thousand years. In fact, it took
mathemeticians a few hundred years just to come up with a proper
symbol for the thing, and to understand its importance.
Here is what zero means to me:
* Zero is an empty cup, ready to be filled
* Zero is a space of possibility
* Zero is the amount of resistance I want a visitor to a website
to encounter
* Zero is the foundation of all numbers, positive and negative
* Zero is the time it should take for a website to load
* Zero is the picture in my mind, representing the whole universe
* Zero represents the beginning of GREATNESS
What does Zero mean to you?
The best part about Zero is that it can have lots of meaning -
but only if you place the meaning into it. Or it can have ZERO
meaning – it is completely up to you.
Zero is a lot like life in that way. You get to choose – what
do you want it to be? Do you want a life with lots of meaning,
or do you want a life with zero meaning? Whatever you fill your
cup with, I hope you choose something meaningful.
Life is a series of infinite possibilities, but you have to
choose one and go for it. You have to look into yourself, make
some meaning, and then get after it. If you do that, I guarantee
you’ll have Zero Regrets!
