Why Google was advertising during the Super Bowl

February 11th, 2010. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response, Internet Marketing. Tags: , ,

Did you watch the Super Bowl?

I did, but not only for the football.

More money is spent on advertising on the day of the Super Bowl than any other day.

So as a direct response marketer, I always find it interesting to see what people are throwing tons of dollars at – and whether they’re doing a good job with their ads.

One ad really surprised me.  Did you see this one?

Google was advertising their search engine!

This really blew me away.

They had a video where they searched all sorts of search terms…telling the story of a person who travels abroad, falls in love with a French girl, creates a long distance relationship, and eventually marries her and has a baby!  It’s crazy.

Here it is:

But the really crazy thing was how they told the story through nothing but Google searches.

That’s when it hit me for the 17 millionth time.

Google is the fulcrum point of our internet experience.  This may or may not be true a few years from now, but right now Google IS the starting place on the Internet, for almost everyone.

Which brings up a good point.

People search.  It’s how they find things.
70% of searches now include a city, and 30% of those searches are taking place on a mobile device.

What does this mean?

This means that if you’re spending money on a phone book, you’re wasting your money.

It means that if you’re not showing up in local searches, you’re losing sales.

And it means that if you’re not keeping up with your ranking on Google, you’re falling behind.

So make sure that you’re taking steps to put yourself in the traffic flow, so that you can keep business coming in the door and keep cashing those checks.

Search it up!

P.S. – Lately there’s been a lot of interest in the Search Engine Quick Start Package, which gets you to the top of Google in record time.  If you aren’t happy with where you’re ranked, take a look at it here.

Why I think Obama will win

November 4th, 2008. Filed Under: Direct Response, Internet Business Tips, Internet Marketing. Tags: , , ,

It’s a beautiful fall day here in Fort Collins, and the
construction that was going on in front of the house is finally
moving on down the street.

Pretty soon all the leaves will have fallen, and all those
damn campaign yard signs will be taken down with them.

Unless you’re living under a rock, you might have heard that
there is an election taking place today.  Try as I might, I
can’t always keep my head out of it, even though it just makes
me get all uptight and excitable.  Maybe it does the same for
you.

No matter where you stand on the vote, I wanted to share with
you why I think Obama is going to win.

It doesn’t have anything to do with  his positions, or good
looks, or his Chicago heritage.  Although I must say, if you can
win in Chicago, you can probably win anywhere.

It has to do with the way he’s used the Internet.

I’ve been pretty impressed, actually with both campaigns, and
how they’ve embraced the Internet.  But Obama really impressed
me because he’s been able to turn the web into a cash-generating
machine.

He’s gotten thousands of sales – oops, donations – at
$100 or less.  I’ve helped a lot of people do the same, and I
want to help you do it too.

Here’s a few things he’s done right that you can too:

He’s turned his personality into a website
He’s used the web and email marketing to stay in touch with
thousands of supporters
He’s asked for the sale, um, I mean, a donation

And so much more.

The beauty of our fine country is that we can take the winning
playbook and use it to our own advantage – no matter who we vote
for.

Today I want you to take a moment and Vote For Your SELF!

Commit to taking your business to the next step.  Let’s end this
talk about the bad ecomomy.  Make yourself the winner of this
election.

Let’s take a few pages from the winning playbook and generate
more sales over the next 4 years.  To do that, I’ve created a
new CD called the Secrets of Money Generating Website – REVEALED!

In this power packed CD, you will learn how to pull more money
from the web, whether you’re an online or offline business.

You’ll learn how to keep your website visitors happy.

ahead of your competition.

I teach you all of these things and more in an easy to listen

Quality is the solution to pollution

April 7th, 2008. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response, Internet Marketing. Tags: , , , , ,

I just got done reading an article about a giant trash heap that
is floating in the Pacific ocean.  It is twice the size of Texas,
and growing bigger every day.  Seems that the ocean currents send
all the trash into a big pile, so big that you can see it on a
satellite image.

Anyway, it reminded me of a saying that I heard a while ago, that
I really enjoyed:

“Quality is the solution to pollution.”

Think about this for a moment.  How many times have you said
“they don’t make ‘em like they used to” when referring to a piece
of equipment that breaks way too soon.  Really what we are
saying, though, is “this thing doesn’t do what I want it to!”

It’s the same with a website.  Most of what you see on the web
these days is the equivalent of a Texas sized trash heap.  Visual
pollution, I call it.  Been to Myspace lately?  Most of the stuff
on there has me grabbing for old vitamin I – that’s right,
Ibuprofen.

Quality websites are not an eyesore.  They’re easy to read, and
easy to navigate.  They’re easy to find.  And they’re quick to
download.

Why?

Because if your website doesn’t have these qualities, people
leave.  And when people leave, you don’t make a sale.

A lost visitor to your website is like the kid with the broken
toy on Christmas, screaming to themselves “this thing doesn’t do
what I want it to!”

To be a part of the solution to visual pollution, work with Wally
the Web Guy.  You’ll be rewarded with higher profits, more sales,
and the warm fuzzy feeling of cash in your pocket.

Just like these folks.

This is your brain on the web

March 25th, 2008. Filed Under: Direct Response, Internet Marketing, Website Design. Tags: , , , , , ,

The other day a friend of mine sent me a video from a brain
scientist who had the chance of a lifetime:  she had a stroke.

Now, to you and I, this is not the chance of a lifetime.  This is tragic.

But she had a great attitude, and thought “awesome, how many
brain scientists get to study themselves while having a stroke!”

So for starters, she gave us a great example to follow – make the
best out of your situation.

But she also talked about some really interesting ways about how
the brain works.  She learned a lot about the brain, and now we
can too.

For instance, did you know that we basically have two separate
brains?

The left and right brain are essentially physically separate.  If
you take it out, hold it on a tray, you can actually split the
brain in half without cutting anything.  Really amazing.

Your left brain is linear, and thinks in terms of past and
future.  It is the logic side of your brain, and it thinks in
language and details.

The right side of your brain is caught up in the present – it
thinks in pictures, and it learns by doing.  This is the side of
your brain that holds your creativity, the one that is stimulated
when you “get in a state of flow”.

This really got me thinking.

What would it take to build a website that stroked both sides of
the brain?

I came up with a quick list.  Here are a few items that a good
website, stimulating your brain, would have to have.  See if you
can figure out which side of the brain each will be stimulated by
these (the answers are at the bottom of the email):

A brain stimulating website has:

*Interactivity
*Pictures that help your cause
*Good captions describing pictures
*Good offer
*Easy navigation
*Quality writing that excites you
*Stimulating colors

There’s so much more that we could add to the list.  But this is
just a “brain tease”.

A website that stimulates both sides of the brain can really help
you.  You pull in more money for your business.  After all, if
somebody is reacting to you with 100% of their brain power, when
your competition is only picking up a small fraction of their
attention, you’re going to win every time.

Keep this in MIND:  Every website designed by Wally the Web Guy
is designed to stimulate BOTH sides of the brain.

How to have an Amazing 2008!

January 8th, 2008. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response, Website Design. Tags: , , , ,

Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been blessed to spend time with
friends and family, and take a breather from the day-to-day
grind.

I hope you’ve been lucky enough to take a few days off as well.

If you’re anything like me, maybe you take this time to look back
on your accomplishments over the past year, say a moment of
thanks, look forward to next year, and what you’d like to
accomplish in 2008.

As you consider your network and website infrastructure in your
business, I hope you will take a moment to consider where you
are:

…an unpredictable break-fix model,
…a fairly predictable maintenance situation,
…or hopefully, you’ve moved to a Return on Invesment model,
and you’ll be focusing on how much more money you want to make
this year.

Regardless of where you fit in there, I’d like it if you’ll take
a moment, and consider what it will take to move you to the next
level up the food chain.

If you’re in contact only occasionally, when things break – think
for a moment, the ways you’d be better off if you had a
planned-for cost, with no surprises.

If you’re in a maintenance phase, think for a moment, how AWESOME
it would be if you didn’t have to pay for those services, because
you were using your infrastructure to make you more money.

And if you’re a SUPERSTAR, focusing on how much more money you’d
like to make this year, let’s sit down and imagine ways to double
your sales through the web.

Because I guarantee we can make it happen.

Let’s all think for a moment what a great year 2007 was, and how
much better 2008 is going to be!

I hope we can make it that way together.

If you’d like to imagine how to make your business better, and
talk about some actionable steps to take it to the next level,
please get in touch today.

P.S. – Don’t forget – a great 2008 begins with you!  If you have

been putting off taking your business to the next level because
you just don’t know where to start, let’s start by talking.
