The King Is Dead (Again)
January 17th, 2012. Filed Under: Direct Response, Online Marketing. Tags: email marketing, what works
A few years ago I went to a high powered marketing seminar,
where we talked in depth about “the king”.
When you mastered the art of performing the exercise of
“the king” you were able to simply write a few lines,
tell a few jokes, and then rake in money almost at the
push of a button.
Then things changed. “The king” died. Or so it seemed.
If you haven’t realized it, “the king” is email marketing.
Deliverability rates of email went down. Spam filters
went up. The world became busier and noisier. Social media
competed for attention.
And now many folks, each year in and out, proclaim that
“email marketing is dead”. Maybe you’ve believed this too.
Allow me let you in on something…
Yesterday I had a long productive talk with a friend of mine
who specializes in creating email marketing campaigns for
everyone from busy CEOs to small businesses.
And during our conversation, we were laughing about all the
people who claim each and every year that “the king is dead”.
Because neither of our experience, or that of our customers
shows that to be true.
At one point in our conversation I became really animated
and excited jumping up and down because while she was
making some points about email marketing, it was as if she
had been reading straight from page 41 of 21 Ways To Create
A Sales Stampede On The Internet.
Without knowing it, she had stumbled upon what I call
“the most important secret to your long term success” and
it had me really excited.
I told her that I consider myself to be an “evangelical
entrepreneur” and that I get really revved up when I hear
people using strategies that are known to work, and then
hear of their success with them.
It’s exciting to hear these success stories in contrast
to what you hear in the so-called media.
Today I invite you to join us and discover the most
important secret to your long term success.
Spend a few minutes watching this video I’ve created for
you:

The king is not dead. The king is alive and well.
And when you take action and put these strategies into
place, you’ll be the beneficiary of knowing what really
works and what is simply noise.

PS – Sometimes there’s too much noise and not enough signal.
Once you cut through the noise you just have to know how
to put the pieces together. Let me show you how I
discovered what works and what really doesn’t with your

How to stop attracting people who drain your energy
September 6th, 2011. Filed Under: Business Tips, Direct Response. Tags: abundance, inner economy
Just got off the phone with a nice lady who was
looking for some help with her website. She had
made the classic rookie mistake of downloading
a seemingly “cheap” template and installing it
herself, only to find out that all sorts of
hidden landmines awaited her.
She couldn’t update her own website even though
that was her initial goal, and what she had been
promised by the template people.
Her presence on the internet looked amateurish
beyond belief because the layout of the site was
all messed up.
…and worst of all, she wasn’t sure what to do
to fix the problems.
When we talked about what was going on, I made a
few suggestions about how she could proceed,
and begin focusing on what really matters…
her marketing.
Here’s the kicker though.
During our conversation, she talked about how she
was pretty happy with a local “pretty design”
firm who had given her a quote to re-create the
site from scratch.
And I listened as she talked about what a great
fit this company was for her.
Then we discussed some of the ways that I’ve
helped folks in the past. Everything from high
converting website design to automated online
marketing.
And guess what we discovered after talking?
That she was a better fit for the “pretty design”
firm. She wasn’t ready for direct response
marketing and design – she was still living in a
clouded place where image and brochures live.
That’s not what I’m about, so I gave her my full
recommendation to go with the other place –
somebody that I’ve never seen, or heard of until
today.
Seems kinda strange, doesn’t it? Why give a
bunch of business over to your so-called
competition?
Here’s why.
This lady and I weren’t a good fit to work
together. She had already found someone else.
Why fight the tide.
A few years ago, when I was caught in a place of
fear and limited thinking, there was no way that
I would have given my full blessing for somebody
to go with a “graphic design firm”.
I would have fought tooth and nail to keep this
lady on my side, even though she clearly wasn’t
ready or a good fit. And I certainly wouldn’t
have encouraged her to go over to another place.
Over the years, I’ve found out that fighting gets
you knowhere. It’s not the way to go.
And when I discovered the secret of how to change
from the inside, so that your results on the
outside are abundant and flowing, everything
changed.
In my book 21 Ways To Create A Sales Stampede On
The Internet, I go into great detail about this
simple change that you can make too, on page 21.
The simple change that creates abundance and
flowing thinking, instead of limited scarcity
thinking…and increases your results.
NOTE: If you already own a copy of 21 Ways To
Create A Sales Stampede On The Internet, I highly
recommend you re-read page 21 and all of Chapter 3…
Once you learn these secrets about how to align
yourself in the way discussed on page 21, there
is no limit to the results you can create.
And the best part is it’s less stressful and
more effective, and people are happier to be
around you too.

drained your energy?

Auto Detailer gets 842 new customers in 2 days
June 13th, 2011. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response, Internet Marketing. Tags: Auto Detailer, Business, daily deal, daily deal builder, group buying, groupon, hollis carter, living social, local business, marc horne, wave
This morning Melinda and I drove across town to drop off her Subaru Outback at the auto detail shop so that we can get her windows tinted.
Michael the auto detailer finished showing us the various tint colors and how dark we could go (we went with the totally illegal dark version, just a shade above “pimp my ride dark”)…we started talking about how his business was doing.
He relayed to me that over the last couple days he ran a group buying ad in Living Social – and promptly got 842 new customers who were scheduled out through October. These were people as close by as the next block who never knew about him. Out of those 842 new customers he was able to upsell a third of them immediately.
This is a real world, right now example of the wave I’ve been telling you about. In fact, he used the words “wave of new customers” much to my approval.
There are two ways to take advantage of this giant wave that is gathering speed and growing faster than any business model has in the last few years. The first is to be on the paying side and get your customers, just as this guy did. The second, and even more lucrative, is to be running the group buying site yourself (with minimal effort) and take a piece of the pie while the local businesses do all the work.

Keep on living social,

Three Ways To Increase Your Income Today

Yesterday morning I woke up super early and headed to the
airport, hopped on a United flight across the country, and
landed safely. The entire flight was a blur because I was,
well…asleep.
Before nodding off for the 3 hours of air time, the new United
Airlines CEO was on the small television screens on this
airplane, talking about all the great things that he’s doing to
combine Continental and United. As he was talking though, I was
thinking to myself “this guy seems like a sleazeball”.
Not really sure where this gut reaction came from, but it was
there. And I picked up Hemispheres magazine, the inflight mag
on the plane, and there was the new CEO again, staring back at
me and trying to win my business. Again, the gut reaction of
“wow, this dude is scary”.
The funny thing was that as I was thinking it, the lady in a row
behind me blurts out, “Man, that guy is creepy.”
Houston – we’ve got a problem here.
It’s interesting to see how as these two companies combine,
they’ve decided to keep the name United but go with the logo and
feel of Continental. I’m not sure that it’s going to work for
these guys, especially as long as they keep putting their creepy
used car salesman CEO out in the front.
United could use a quick reminder of the three ways to make more
money. Reason is, each of these relies on keeping your current
customers happy and building more trust. You scare people away
as soon as they get on the plane…well, more business for
Southwest Airlines.
Remember, there are only three ways to make more money:
1. Charge higher prices…
2. Get more customers…
3. Or get your customers to spend more money with you each time
they buy.
Each of these depends on you providing more value, gaining more
trust, and marketing to more people. Automated marketing,
instant upsells, and pushing more traffic to your offer – all of
these things can serve you as you implement one or all of these
strategies.
However, none of them work unless you’re a trusted source of
information, and providing real value. That’s the key.
Members of my top secret Internet Sales Success program have
been thriving with these strategies for months now, thriving
while those around them are hurting.

Who Is John Galt?
April 11th, 2011. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response. Tags: Atlas Shrugged, Atlas Shrugged Part, Business, HUGE
If you’ve ever read the classic book Atlas Shrugged,
by Ayn Rand, you know exactly what that question means.
What ideas it brings to mind, how deeply it has moved
people around the world.
If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s only 1028
pages long. Ha.
Or you could take a shortcut.
You know the movie is coming out, right? That’s right,
Atlas Shrugged Part 1
Due out April 15, 2011.
No there’s no coincidence to the date. In fact, I’m
sure the date was carefully chosen.
This movie was never supposed to happen.
Studio after studio said “NO” to making it, they blew
it off, they refused to fund the production.
But now, after 50 years of trying, an independent
multimillionaire fan of the book put up the money,
and we have it. The novel that’s changed lives all
over the world is now a movie, and I’m excited to
see it.
So why am I writing to you about Atlas Shrugged?
Well, I know a guy whose personal story reads a lot
like the movie. Not the book, but the path the movie
traveled to get made.
(Skip ahead here: http://wallythewebguy.com/everte)
It was unlikely he would ever amount to anything.
Single mother, grew up in a white trash trailer park,
had no real skills, average student, college drop out.
He ended up a divorced single father, his home being
foreclosed on, making only $1000/month by the
time he was 30.
Seven years later, this same guy owns a million dollar a
year business. (He built one million dollar a year businesses
in just 16 months during the reccession then bought another
related business about 5 months ago and merged the two.
He will likely do 2.5-3 Million this year in sales.)
He consults with business owners to teach them how to do the
same thing, that is to make HUGE strides in their business.
One of the skills he used to make such HUGE and dramatic
changes in his life and business was direct response
copywriting. In other words, he learned to translate a
sales presentation into print and then use various media
to give the presentation to tens of thousands of people at
the same time, instead of doing one person at a time.
There are time when he gives his presentation to as many
as a million people a week, but he never sees any of them
one on one.
What would happen to your business if you could do the
same thing?
Now you can!
My friend’s name is Everte (the guy I keep telling you about),
and he has offered to do a teleseminar for me and my friends
to teach us how to do what he’s done.
I’ve known this guy for about a year and a half. I’ve seen
his work and the commercials he’s run. One local commercial
he ran on the local cable network helped him do $150,000 in
sales in just 60 days!
I promise you the guy’s amazing, and the fact that he’s
willing to spend a couple hours helping us get the same
results he does is just spectacular.
We’re going to do the teleseminar on April 15th, just like
the movie release. Why?
Well for two reasons. First, Everte says Atlas Shrugged
was a game changer for him. After he read the book his
life changed…turned around 180 degrees.
Second, truth is we’re, all of us, going to be looking at
higher and higher taxes and inflation. It’s a predetermined
conclusion at this point. Whether you like the current
state of politics in America or not the facts are the facts.
So in short, we’re just gonna have to out earn ‘em. Everte
and I will make it possible for you to do just that!
So it’s kind of symbolic. Doing something on “Tax Day”
to help you stave off the politicians and make sure you
lifestyle gets better, no matter what they do is kind of
poetic, right?
Anyway, we have a few spots left, so go sign up here and
I can make sure you get on the call:
http://wallythewebguy.com/everte/
Sincerely,
-Wally

Check out this email that my friend Everte (the guy I’ve been talking to you about) received a few months ago:
“Hi, Everte,
I won’t be able to attend this week’s meetings. I’m in the process of closing down my business and life is very hectic (and depressing) at the moment. I have to come to accept this failure and decide how to move on, and in what direction. I realize that your meetings are probably just what I need, but I have to figure things out first.
I apologize for not answering your calls, but …
Possibly next month.

Why email marketing works so much better than social media
November 16th, 2010. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response. Tags: Business, People, ROI, Wally
Over the last couple years, I’ve had a lot of conversations surrounding social media (Facebook, Twitter, and more) and how important it is going to be. Or how important it is. Or how much money you can make with it.
And I have a confession to make. I’ve been laying low and not participating in much of it.
Here’s why.
First, I have observed that the majority of people who are making money with social media alone – are people who are selling how to make money in social media. That just doesn’t make sense to me.
Second, I have observed firsthand with my own customers and my own businesses, that there is a tried and proven way to monetize your website quickly – and that is by having a huge email list and emailing them often.
Having said all that, you don’t want to ignore social media. But for the time strapped business person, it’s important to keep things in perspective.
Not everybody goes to Twitter every day. In fact, most Twitter accounts are abandoned within 6 months.
Not everyone goes to Facebook every day (hard to believe, I know). Or if they go to Facebook, they don’t necessarily have a LinkedIn account. And so on. Social media is segmented, and scattered.
In contrast, everyone has email. And they check it every day.
And email is still proven to be the highest ROI when it comes to monetizing your list of followers. People have been trained to expect high quality information, and offers, via email.
Not so much with Facebook and Twitter.
Another really cool fact. 93% of people have a daily opt-in relationship with at least one consumer brand. Those are your customers, asking to hear from you, more often.
That is, you should be you sending them emails.
Only 15% of Facebook users have a daily relationship with a brand. I would expect that to increase…but the expectations of a Facebook relationship are much different than email.
Moral of the story is this: If you’re time strapped and looking for a single, proven strategy to increase your return on investment and bottom line as fast as possible, a high powered email marketing strategy is the only way to go.
Until next time,
-Wally

Why Google was advertising during the Super Bowl
February 11th, 2010. Filed Under: Business, Direct Response, Internet Marketing. Tags: Business, Super Bowl, Wally
Did you watch the Super Bowl?
I did, but not only for the football.
More money is spent on advertising on the day of the Super Bowl than any other day.
So as a direct response marketer, I always find it interesting to see what people are throwing tons of dollars at – and whether they’re doing a good job with their ads.
One ad really surprised me. Did you see this one?
Google was advertising their search engine!
This really blew me away.
They had a video where they searched all sorts of search terms…telling the story of a person who travels abroad, falls in love with a French girl, creates a long distance relationship, and eventually marries her and has a baby! It’s crazy.
Here it is:
But the really crazy thing was how they told the story through nothing but Google searches.
That’s when it hit me for the 17 millionth time.
Google is the fulcrum point of our internet experience. This may or may not be true a few years from now, but right now Google IS the starting place on the Internet, for almost everyone.
Which brings up a good point.
People search. It’s how they find things.
70% of searches now include a city, and 30% of those searches are taking place on a mobile device.
What does this mean?
This means that if you’re spending money on a phone book, you’re wasting your money.
It means that if you’re not showing up in local searches, you’re losing sales.
And it means that if you’re not keeping up with your ranking on Google, you’re falling behind.
So make sure that you’re taking steps to put yourself in the traffic flow, so that you can keep business coming in the door and keep cashing those checks.
Search it up!
-Wally
P.S. – Lately there’s been a lot of interest in the Search Engine Quick Start Package, which gets you to the top of Google in record time. If you aren’t happy with where you’re ranked, take a look at it here.
