Faith or Fear- Which do you choose?

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

“FAITH and FEAR make poor bedfellows.
Where one is found, the other cannot exist.”
- Napoleon Hill

Lately I’ve been talking to some people who are caught up in a
time of fear.  For some, it is fear of failure.  For others, it
is fear of loss.  And for others, it is fear of being
uncomfortable.

We all have been there before.  I know I certainly have.

With all this talk of recession, one thing that can drive fear
into the heart of a small business owner is fear of parting with
their money.

I know that at times, I have sat there, fists clenched, trying to
hold onto every red cent possible – and go the cheap route.

Every time I have done this, I’ve gotten what I paid for.

Let me tell you a secret I’ve recently learned.  It is about
Faith.

It’s about your energy, and it’s about your expectation.   What
I’m talking about is this:  Think inside yourself, and the last
time you were going to make a big purchase.  What were you
thinking about?

Did you have a fearful mental image, of your money being sucked
away from you?  Or did you have a faithful image, seeing your
money as a slave, working for you, coming back ten fold?

How you energize, and view your purchases, can have a deep impact
on what they do for you.  This is true in business, and in life.

Here is a question to ponder:

Do you view a purchase as a loss, or do you view it as an
investment?

The answer to this reveals a lot about where you will go in life.

Personally, when I viewed purchases as losses, I never got
anywhere.  Then one day I changed how I thought about a purchase
- and instead of focusing on the money going out, I focused on
how the purchase would bring more in.

I had faith in my judgment, faith in the investment I was making.

Rather than seeing the expensive hammer, I saw myself driving some nails!  Next thing you know, I had built a house.

Now, I’m talking in metaphors.  But I think you understand where
I’m coming from.

So the next time you are faced with a big purchase, make sure it
is an investment.  Have faith in yourself!  Feel the money coming
back to you already.  I assure you, you’ll be glad you did.

P.S. — Having faith in your investment starts by working with
the right people.  The right people are hard to find!  Stay tuned

made by your typical web designer”.  You’ll see
the difference between the right way to do web design,
and the wrong way.

Things I learned from my dog

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I awoke early this morning, and had the pleasure of taking the
dog for a walk.  I’m not sure about you, but I am definitely a
dog lover.

One of the main reasons I’m a dog lover, is because of the things
they have taught me.

Top 3 things I’ve learned from my dog:

1. It pays to be Persistent
2. Nose to the ground
3. Be a good friend

I think its important that we all learn these things and apply
them in our lives. After all, who doesn’t love a dog who is wagging his tail and “smiling” at you?

And here’s why I think each of these are important:

Persistence pays off because it means you aren’t a quitter.  You
keep going, even when the going gets tough.  Have you ever seen a
3 legged dog, who has survived a car wreck?  They just keep going
and going, even though we all know it would be easier with their
fourth leg.

Nose to the ground is FOCUS.  Like a bloodhound, zigging and
zagging to the  source of the smell, we can zig and zag towards
our goals.  But to get what we want out of life, we have to stay
focused – or else we’re just chasing our tail.

Be a good friend.  Well I shouldn’t have to explain this one!
But seriously, if you aren’t a good friend, in business or in
pleasure, what is the point?  You have give first to receive
later.

This is the biggest lesson of all that I’ve learned
from my dog.

When he showed up, I wasn’t even sure if I liked dogs.  But he
wagged his tail, and was a good friend first.  Now I’m his friend
too.

Give your customers a KISS

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Happy Valentine’s Day!

If you’re like me, you might think that Valentine’s day is kinda
a funny concept.  “Hallmark Holiday” or “VD” is what we call it
around our house.

But as you know, even though we all treat it as some sort of
joke, its still nice to get a KISS on “VD”.

Now, I know that Valentine’s day is TODAY, but it had me
thinking about the other KISS – no, I’m not talking Hershey’s.

KISS stands for:

Keep
It
Simple
Stupid

As a website owner, you would do well to apply this concept.

Think about this:  Google – simple.  Yahoo – complex.

Which of these two companies is ultra-successful?  Yup, that’s
Google.

When a visitor to your website is confused, they become
frustrated.  Frustrated people are not motivated to purchase
from you.

Studies have shown that if a visitor to your website cannot find
what they are looking for in 3 clicks or less, they are likely to
leave.  That’s a tough proposition – but it’s REALITY.

For over ten years, I’ve been building simple yet highly
effective websites that GET RESULTS.   So believe me when I tell
you this – most “web designers” are too focused on the beautiful,
cute, and complicated – which makes you feel warm and fuzzy at
first, but then leaves you with an empty wallet.

Keeping it simple is the way to go, my friend.  Get the leads,
get more sales.

For years, my friends have called me “Wally the Web Guy”.

In the next couple weeks, you’ll hear more about this side of me
– and how I can help you make more money for your online or
offline business.  After all, why have a website, if it isn’t
getting you RESULTS?
